There is actually a very simple method to improve your English speaking:
- Use an effective system.
- Do the work.
- Understand exactly how much you want to speak English.
As I’ve said before, the problem with most ‘English courses’ is that you do what they tell you, but you still don’t learn English.
This is different.
If you do the work, you will actually learn English. You will speak English. You will never have an ‘English problem’ again.
Let’s talk about each step.
Step 1: Use an effective system.
What is ‘an effective system’ or ‘method’ for learning English?
An ‘effective’ system is a series of actions that will guarantee success in English.
This is not a ‘theory’ – but a proven set of exercises and activities that help you learn and speak English.
What’s the secret?
There is no secret. If you research ‘effective methods to learn English’ – you’ll find that the most effective method is to ‘Listen and Learn’ – or ‘Listen First’.
You can’t learn to speak English only from a book.
You have to listen. You have to learn the ‘sounds’ of English. You have to learn how to understand them – and you have to learn correct English pronunciation.
You have to use real English materials. Newspapers, books, films, TV shows, magazines, music, and videos. You have to learn to understand these materials. THEN – you will be able to speak English more fluently.
Of course – this method of learning English is ‘easier said than done‘.
It’s not ‘easy’ to teach and learn English with this method.
That’s why most ‘English courses’ don’t want to teach English with this method. It’s too hard for them.
But the truth is:
Learning to understand and use real English materials is the most effective method for learning English.
If you really want to speak English – use this system:
- Choose English materials that you like.
- Read, listen, and learn to understand these materials. Use the dictionary if necessary.
- Listen to English constantly. Your goal is to listen to and understand everything.
After you start to understand more – you will be able to start speaking more.
This is the ‘big secret’ to improve your English speaking:
Learn to understand more first. Then practice speaking.
Step 2: Do the work
What does ‘do the work’ mean?
It means: Every day – you do what you need to do to learn English.
You wake up every day – and you practice English.
You practice listening. You practice understanding. You use the most effective method for learning English – and you practice every day.
You might have noticed, I didn’t say:
‘2 days a week’
‘3 days a week’
‘when you want to’
or ‘when you have time’
I said, “Every Day.”
If you don’t practice every day, you won’t learn to speak English.
It will be ‘hard’ to improve. You will start to think ‘English is hard’. But the reality is:
You’re not practicing enough.
How much is enough?
If you’re seeing improvement – it’s enough.
If you’re not seeing improvement – it’s not enough.
After 11 years of helping people speak English, I still think it’s strange that some people think:
“I’ll spend 1 hour a day practicing English, and 16 hours a day speaking my own language.”
If you don’t spend enough time practicing English, it will definitely be ‘hard’ to learn English!
Spend the time. Do the work. Do what’s necessary to learn and speak English. It’s the only way.
Step 3: Understand exactly how much you want to speak English.
How much do you want to speak English?
What will ‘speaking English’ mean to you?
A better job?
A better life?
Answer these questions. Write down your answers. Write it down now.
Start taking English seriously.
This is the single most important step if you want to speak English fluently.
Why is it so important to understand your motivation for learning English?
Because learning to speak English takes time. And effort.
If you don’t really want to speak English – it will be very ‘hard’ to be successful.
Especially at the beginning – learning English might not be very ‘fun’.
But if you practice more… And if you really start improving your English…
You will start to enjoy it more.
English will become more fun.
And it will become much easier.
But first – you must motivate yourself to START, to CONTINUE, and to SUCCEED.
How can you motivate yourself to learn English?
Ask yourself: What will I lose if I don’t speak English?
How much more salary could you make every month?
How much better could you feel?
How much more confident could you feel?
What are you feeling now? (maybe scared, nervous, insecure about your English)
How much longer do you want to continue feeling like this?
Write down your answers to these questions right now!
Read these questions again. Look at your answers.
Think about your answers.
